About almost 3 years ago, the AMSC had applications available for regional clubs to host a National Roving Specialty in the year 2010. I discussed this with the CFMSC as to whether or not we were ready, willing, and able to pull this off. “Yes, yes!” said the club. So off went the application to hold the AMSC Roving Specialty in march, 2010 along with Everglades Terrier Club and the 2 Palm Beach DFA all breed shows. The AMSC approved our application and we were in business and in shock. It appeared that I would have to be show chairman since I had gotten the ball rolling.
Lots of things had to be decided way back then. We would have a raffle; a banquet, seminars, find a host hotel willing to negotiate room rates; 3 sets of major entries and we were off and running. After months of planning, talking, and working with the host hotel, the Palm Beach Sailing Club , the Fairgrounds, the Palm Beach DFA show chair etc...
The weekend began Thursday afternoon at the Comfort Inn with a dental seminar that was very well attended. After that, Kurt Garmaker set up his table with a dog in rolled coat. He proceeded to hold his audience in rapt attention for 2 hours. The dog never even moved or blinked as Kurt showed us how he rolls a mature coat on a mature dog. We had Rob Boyer taking close up video of the procedure. Hopefully this will be available soon. I leave all things technical to those who are in the know...
Following the rolling seminar, we proceeded to another Meeting Room set up behind the bar at the Comfort Inn. We all stuffed ourselves with delicious food from Chic Fil A and drinks from the bar. Everyone was socializing while Jana King ( and her daughter Melissa), our new VP and creative genius, distributed the welcome bags which were chock full of dog goodies. Marie Pletsche displayed our commemorative T shirts and sold many that night and the following 3 days along with T Shirt Chair, Sheila Marks. Carole Weinberger set up her magnificent quilts, one of which was awarded to the Breed winner on Saturday and the other was included in our raffle.
Friday morning saw the schnauzer people at the South Florida Fairgrounds busy as only schnauzer people can be preceding the Everglades Terrier Club. Barry Day from England was our judge.

Everything was manned by our hard working members. Amy made sure we all had Firehouse Subs every day. assisted by everyone. Nobody slacked off. Flo Bessemer arranged for our Heart and Eye Clinics. Rene Luke (Carole Weinberger's daughter) manned the heart clinic. Edwina Hutson and Leonore Spenser manned the eye clinic.
Our president Joe Wake, who had a death in the family, came on Saturday and stayed for Saturday night's banquet. He set up the trophies and made sure everyone got the right one in a box. Our beautiful floral arrangements and flowers for the judges were donated by Helen Carter. We had home baked cookies brought by Louise Gross; Beth Holmes was responsible for the beautiful shrink wrapping of our raffle wicket. The wickets were custom made by Frank Weinberger and were given as judges gifts to Barry Day, Hilde Haakensen, Carma Ewer, Lynda Berar. They were all delighted at such a different judges gift.
We held the drawing for our raffle directly after BOB judging. The winner of the grooming table donated by Penny Hirstein, was none other than Kurt Garmaker. I guess it will be used a lot! winner of the Carole Weinberger Terrier breed quilt was Wyoma Clouss. A dog bed donated by the Wygants and the Chris Christensen grooming kits were won by local breeders who supported our raffle. The gorgeous purple canvass folding chair with custom designed schnauzer embroidery donated by Sue Steele and the Wygants was won by Kathy Kolby. The wicket was won by Shawne Imler.
The Banquet:
Sixty members & guests gathered at the Palm Beach Sail Club for a lovely evening of Jimmy Buffet music, wonderful food, ambiance, friendship and my not to be forgotten grass skirt and Margaritaville shirt! Everyone received a lei at the door and the table favors made by Geri Kelly and Helen Carter brought “ooes and ahhhs” . Your show chair (me, in case you forgot) was given a gift of appreciation from president, Joe Wake. Your thoughtfulness is definitely noted. But I am still not going to be show chair in 2011!
Sunday:
We were still going strong on day 4. Sweeps as at 11 AM and was judged by Carma

The last thing we did was draw the 50/50 with a total of over $400. The winner was Shawne Imler!
Then your show chairman went home to sleep, content that all was well in the world of dog shows....at least in our little world! (And wearing a few more gray hairs than she started with...—Editor)
